Apple released Mac OS X 10.4.11 on Wednesday to fix a long list of Tiger related issues. The update addresses several potential security threats and includes Safari 3.

Mac OS X 10.4.11 update also corrected a problem when copying files from Mac OS 9 AFP sharepoints, improved AFP over Bonjour support, improved third-party wireless WAN device support, and updated Daylight Saving Time information for Indiana, Australia, New Zealand.

Camera Raw image support was added for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50, Leica V-Lux 1, Olympus E-400, Olympus EVOLT E410, Olympus EVOLT E510, and Canon EOS 40D cameras. Compatibility was improved when using OpenType fonts in QuarkXPress, and reliability when using VMware Fusion was improved, too.

Safari 3 was updated and is also avaiable for Windows XP. Apple says that Safari is the fastest browser running on Windows, based on the industry standard iBench tests, rendering web pages up to twice as fast as IE 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2.

Other Safari features now available to Windows users include SnapBack, one-click access to an initial search query; resizable text fields; and private browsing to ensure that information about an individual’s browsing history isn’t stored.

Safari 3 supports all modern Internet standards so users can view websites as they were meant to be seen, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SVG and Java. Safari software updates are delivered seamlessly through Apple’s Software Update application, which automatically checks for updates.

The updated Safari for Windows 3.04 includes font smoothing, spell checking and much more.
